FAQs:

What does Reset do?

Reset aids your body’s detoxification process by supporting liver function and providing antioxidants to protect your cells from oxidative damage caused by exposure to free radicals. In addition to supporting your body’s natural cleansing system, Reset helps relieve digestive disturbances. The liver is an essential organ responsible for processing most everything you consume, inhaled and absorbed by your skin – it’s your body’s main defense against toxins and aids in digestion (1).

What’s the function of each ingredient?

Reset provides two medicinal ingredients: broccoli sprout powder, providing 4 mg/serving sulforaphane, and milk thistle extract, providing 200 mg/serving silymarin. Broccoli sprout powder provides antioxidants to help protect against ubiquitous and intrinsically generated free radicals, while the organic milk thistle extract is well established to aid in the protection of the liver and support its normal function.

What makes the broccoli sprout powder in Reset unique?

Standard broccoli sprout powders contain the inactive, precursor, form of sulforaphane, called glucoraphanin. Glucoraphanin can be converted into sulfuropahane when it reacts with the enzyme, myrosinase. The body is not very efficient at converting glucraphanin into sulforaphane and conversion rates can vary from person to person. The broccoli sprout powder in Reset provides sulforaphane, therefore, providing you with a standardized, known dose, that doesn’t rely on your body’s conversion.

What ingredients are present in the formula?

Reset contains broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) sprout powder, organic milk thistle (Silybum marianum) extract, hypromellose (vegetarian shell), microcrystalline cellulose, organic rice (Oryza sativa) hull powder, magnesium stearate.

How is this different from other detoxification products?

Milk thistle extract is a well established ingredient that supports liver function and has liver protectant activities. We stand behind its use for these purposes. In addition, Reset contains broccoli sprout powder which contains antioxidants that help protect cells from free radical damage. Exposure to the toxins can increase your body’s free radical load. Therefore, supporting liver function while reducing oxidative damage caused by free radicals is how Reset uniquely supports your body’s natural detoxification.

What is active sulforaphane?

Sulforaphane is a bioactive substance made from the compound, glucoraphanin that is naturally present in many cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli. In whole food sources, sulforaphane is typically created when the vegetables are chewed, through the interaction of glucoraphanin and the enzyme, myrosinase which is also present in the food. It can also be made when myrosinase produced by gut micro-organisms act on glucoraphanin during food digestion.

Glucoraphanin itself, does not provide the therapeutic benefits associated with sulforaphane. It must be transformed into sulforaphane, which could be described as its active form.

How does a supplement / natural health product containing broccoli powder containing glucoraphanin (or sulforaphane glucosinolate) differ from one with sulforaphane?

Glucoraphanin doesn’t provide the therapeutic benefits associated with sulforaphane, and therefore, it is referred to as inactive. Both glucoraphanin and myrosinase are needed to form sulforaphane (the active compound), and many variables can impact the quantity of sulforaphane produced from these starting materials. As a consequence, taking a defined amount of glucoraphanin, does not guarantee achieving a therapeutic dose of sulforaphane. Instead, direct intake of active sulforaphane ensures maximum benefit.

What does sulforaphane do?

Sulforaphane helps to enhance your body’s natural detoxification process by stimulating increased production of important internal antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes(1) that help to eliminate potentially harmful substances from your body and help reduce oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

What is silymarin?

Silymarin is a mixture of a large class of plant pigments called flavonoids that are found in milk thistle seeds. It is an antioxidant.

What does silymarin do?

Silymarin helps to protect the liver and support its function, so that it can effectively fulfill its role in the detoxification process and overall body health.

Silymarin acts primarily as an antioxidant that helps protect cells against oxidative damage due to reactive oxygen species (ROS). It also has anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects that specifically support liver structure and function.

How should I adapt my diet while taking Reset?

There is no need to adapt your diet while taking Reset; it is meant to compliment your current routine. Some research indicates increased consumption of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, can interfere with the production of thyroid hormone if you are iodine deficient. Whether you are taking Reset or not, it is important to ensure you are consuming the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of iodine; the current RDA for adults is 150 µg per day (1). Some dietary sources of iodine include seaweed, fish, and eggs (2).

Does broccoli sprout powder impact iodine/thyroid function?

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and kale, contain naturally occurring substances called goiterogen (1). Goiterogens can interfere with normal thyroid gland function by disrupting thyroid hormone production through interfering with iodine uptake. This disruption can result in the formation of an enlarged thyroid, known as a goiter.

Natural health products containing broccoli sprout powder, at the daily dose provided by Reset, do not require cautions or warning regarding thyroid function.

How do I know this product is right for me?

Yes, Reset is a great addition to Bend Beauty’s family of products. In addition, It optimizes Skin Climate through mechanisms different than the Renew + Protect and Marine Collagen + Co-Factors – through the liver-skin-axis. Since your skin obtains its nutrients from the bloodstream, reduced liver function often first appears in the skin (2). Therefore, providing your body with nutrients proven to support healthy skin, protect against oxidative damage caused by free radicals as well as aid liver function act together to optimize your Skin Climate.
